Dalai Lama’s Twitter account suspended!
It might have angered many of Tibetans, when Twitter suspended the account of the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama. Some of the Tibetans might be viewing it a step taken under the Chinese pressure. Well, actually the reason of suspending Dalai Lama’s account was not political.
San Francisco, California based social networking and micro-blogging service, Twitter definitely did suspend an account running under the name of the Dalai Lama, but the account was fake.
According to Twitter, the account was bogus and it was suspended as it violated the site’s terms of service. The account under the Dalai Lama’s name was created only a few days ago, but the account had already attracted tens of thousands of followers.
In a blog, Twitter co-founder Biz Stone wrote, “The account at OHHDL (apparently for Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama) was suspended by Twitter because it violated our Terms of Use regarding impersonation. Twitter has rules against users attempting to mislead, confuse, or deceive others” with their Twitter accounts.”
Stone explained that the account, after all, actually looked to be real: its inaugural "tweet" was, "Welcome to the official Twitter page of His Holiness the Dalai Lama--administered by The Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama."
So Tibetans, no need to get hyper! Twitter just booted out a fake Dalai Lama account from service.
